A Dogs Dinner (with friends). Brudenell Social Club, Leeds, 15th June 2006.
This event was timed to coincide with the publication of the Second Black Dogs Almanac. It built on the success of A Night At The Pub and was presented in much the same style, although the emphasis was on consumption, performing and sharing of the various foodstuffs.
Press release:
You are warmly invited to attend and partake in Black Dogs, 'A Dogs Dinner', Thursday 15th June, 2006. At the Brudenell Social Club, Queens Rd, Leeds. LS6. Starts at 8pm (ie AFTER football game on telly), £5 in.
Thursday evening will see the second instalment of Black Dog’s one-night exhibition/events/cabaret nights in the Brudenell Social Club. Expect weirdness, music, fun and food. By no small coincidence, it is also the launch of the second Black Dogs Almanac, a publication of great magnitude but small scale. The first edition was shortlisted for New Contemporaries, and this time it is packed with more words than you can get your head around, and it looks fit. Assured eBay gold, you’ll never work again. For this night only you get a free copy upon entrance.
Also; Watch dole-food video diaries, play eating games with massive mitts, puzzle over an improvised dance performance featuring WOODEN SPOONS!!!!, eat yourself senseless on exotic chocs, decorate cakes and then devour them – its pointless, judge strawberry tarts, listen to a salad being made, cower at local noisician Filthy Turd’s cannibalism informed mentalism, have your fortune told over a fairy cake and spectate and partake in Ready, Steady, Art! featuring everyone’s favourite famous food-face, Ainsley Harriet* himself, and more.
To make things better, everyone who attends is encouraged to bring a plate/Tupperware box/bag of food to share with everyone else. This way you can make friends, keep yourself happily entertained, or poison anyone you don’t like the look of. It’ll be a riot. If the food has taken effort, you get a discount on the door price. Microwaves will be around for those that like it hot, disclaimer to be signed upon entry.
Directions can be found on the internet, or get 56 bus from town and get off at Royal Park pub (Brudenell Social Club is next door), or train to Burley Park station and ask a stranger to show you which direction you walk in for 5 minutes.
* no refunds for any untrue portion.
